2019/2020
After spending three months over the summer designing our two-wheel drive Baja car for the 2020 season, a new set of rules came out that requires Baja competition vehicles to power all four wheels by 2021. This led our team to fully redesign all systems of our vehicle to accommodate four-wheel drive. As team captain and prior suspension lead, I was not only responsible for the design of the suspension points but also coordinating the redesign of the entire vehicle for 4WD.
I worked closely with the drivetrain lead and the rest of the team to select a 4WD system consisting of two auto-lock Hilliard differentials and a fully custom chain-drive transfer case. We then spent the next two months completely re-designing the 2020 vehicle around the new 4WD system. We overcame a lot of new design challenges for every subsystem and are excited to start the manufacture of the vehicle in January 2020. Our main focus will be to get the car driving as soon as possible so that we can dedicate ample time for testing and evaluation of our entirely new vehicle.
