2018/2019
I joined the rocketry club, a new student team on campus, because I wanted to do more design work in addition to Baja. I joined the team as the structures lead and had to hit the ground running with the development of the club's first custom rocket.
The rocket would be used as a testing platform for the competition rocket as well as a prototype for certain manufacturing methods such as laying up large carbon fiber body tubes. I designed all the structures in the rocket and we built it within two months of starting the project. The rocket was launched successfully and the team learned a great deal about what manufacturing we could and could not do. I gained experience in working with composites and designing for flight loading conditions.
