2018/2019
After joining the rocketry club and designing their first successful custom rocket, I began the structural development of the competition rocket: a hybrid motor rocket set to compete in the Spaceport America Cup 30,000 ft category. This was quite a step up and we were able to apply what we had learned from the first rocket (X0).
The main change was to buy our body tubes because of the lengthy manufacturing process for custom body tubes that was taking too much of our time. We also went on to create a custom nose cone designed for the rockets flight profile. I finished the design of the entire rocket and kick started the manufacture as my second semester on the team came to an end. The X1 was a two-year project so I had to hand off my work to another to allocate more time for Baja as team captain. Below are CAD images of the structures I designed and pictures of the components I began manufacturing on.
